jeans — F21 blouse — Loft, thrifted scarf — from a street market in Holland
Tales
This month’s Everybody, Everywear was a new experience for me. Color mixing, new silhouettes and shapes, etc., doesn’t make me break a sweat. But two different patterns? Panic. So I’m trying something new and, surprise, I’m liking it! This blouse is one of my new favorite pieces, a thrifted beauty that has effortlessly entered my summer wardrobe. And the scarf is one of my most prized possessions; it was the first thing I bought myself in Holland when I moved there. I was horribly jet-lagged and nervous and excited on my first night in Egmond-aan-Zee, a seaside town in Northern Holland where I took a Dutch language crash course for my first week in Holland, and my friends and I went out to find some dinner. Stumbling bleary-eyed through town, we found ourselves startlingly in a street fair, where a band of youngsters who were, incongruously, playing a techno version of the John Denver classic “Country Roads.” Stunned by this display, we eventually danced in the street with old Dutch men, bought ourselves some frites and scarves, and went on our merry way. So I really love this scarf. Therefore, while others in this month’s EBEW may have planned their pattern mixing carefully, calculating color coordination and print pairings, I just threw these two pieces together, enjoyed the contrast, and (again) went on my merry way.
p.s. everyone deserves a little cheerfulness in the mail on their birthday, so this is the package I sent to my Momma:
I made that ribbon out of old magazine pages and the wrapping is also magazine (I’m reducing, reusing, and recycling, just like Mommy taught me!). Then I figured the package needed a little bunting for extra fun. Happy birthday (in a few days) to my Mom!

I like how simple this pattern mix looks. The basic shirt and then the fun patterned scarf is the perfect combination. – Katy
I am absolutely loving the scarf with the yellow top!

Thanks so much for sharing the story behind the scarf–my whole closet is full of those stories (like the jacket I’m wearing today, in fact), and I think it’s so important to recognize the history we wear on our bodies when we choose what to wear. Beyond that, it’s just a really pretty scarf!
So glad I found you through EBEW–I can’t believe I’ve missed you, as I’m an academic style blogger myself! Our community isn’t so large that I often overlook people, so I was delighted to find you (and steal your button!)
