1. It’s a retail day again, my sweets

Sorry I’ve been so lackluster in my posting and all lately. This is an academic fashion blog, and right now I feel about as far from academia as I think any person living in a University town could. I mean, I spend my work days shelving new merchandise (most of which is product owned by the liquidation company and meant really only to fill space as our book stock gets lower and lower), doing the math to calculate the 40-60% markdown, endlessly shifting books around on the shelves so that the store doesn’t look quite so bare, and getting yelled at by rude customers. It’s pretty … I don’t know. I keep wanting to say depressing, because it is, but what I mean is depressing without the emotional implication. More like depressing as in smushing. As in the whole thing makes me feel smushed into the ground by a larger force. Like super-gravity, like on Jupiter and Neptune (both of which have greater gravity than earth)! So perhaps today I can play astronaut and that will make the whole day better. Also, it’s almost over: last day is September 9th.
In other news, I enjoy search terms. As I think I’ve mentioned before, I find them endlessly amusing; how, o brilliant search engine algorithm, did “kneesocks for older ladies” get the searcher to my site? You sent someone to me based on their request for “static cling dress photo” — are you trying to tell me something I didn’t know If so, consider me embarrassed. Why did you think I would be helpful with “college housing shirt designs” and what was up with that one demand to “put a flower on a yellow cardigan”? I say all this because today I had a search term that baffled me as nothing else has: “younger woman older man.” What?
Finally, this outfit marks my triumphant (to me only) return to the world of Inspiration Monday. Go check the Two Birds out for a whole bunch of other takes on this simple end-of-summer look.
